The Idea to Product® Competition encourages students to create the links between emerging technologies and market needs required to support later stages of commercialization. The I2P® Program educates students about creating viable products and services from technology, and has served as a stepping stone for entrepreneurship.  At least one team in each of the previous 13 local and global competitions hosted at The University of Texas at Austin has won research funding or created a new venture.

The Idea to Product® Global Competition is hosted by the Cockrell School of Engineering, the College of Natural Sciences, the Murchison Chair of Free Enterprise, several engineering departments and student organizations.  Supporters of the event include the National Science Foundation, NCIIA, MOOT CORP, the Austin Technology Incubator, Fish & Richardson, P.C., and the Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship.

The global competition was developed from the I2P® UT Austin local competition, which began in 2001 and continues as a campus-wide event each spring. The success of the local and global competitions hosted by The University of Texas at Austin have sparked I2P® Asia, the National I2P® Competition for EPICS & Social Entrepreneurship, I2P® Europe, I2P® Egypt, Nano I2P®, Global Venture Challenge 2008, I2P® Latin America, I2P® Missouri-Illinois, and ASME IShow.

This year, one set of the semi-final rounds and the final rounds will be broadcast over the internet.  To view these video feeds, follow this link
