Please read further for detailed information regarding the First Round Submission and the Five Page Submission:
First Round Submission
Teams enter the competition by submitting a 1 to 2 page document containing answers to a series of questions covering their technology, the best market for initial commercialization and the basic intellectual property aspects of their project. The link below connects to a PDF file that contains the questions and instructions for entering the competition. Members of the Technology Entrepreneurship Society (www.texastes.org) or the Idea to Product® team can provide additional assistance for teams seeking to enter the competition.

A panel of judges selects the semifinalists from these submissions. The most promising applicants are chosen based on identification and communication of market need, market opportunity, and the uniqueness and innovativeness of the product and the underlying technology. The names and departments of the entrants are not shared with the judges. Depending on the number and quality of the Round One submissions, 12-18 semi-finalists are typically selected. Judges use the same criteria for the first round that is used for the competition.
The Technology Entrepreneurship Society holds a review session shortly before the Round One submission deadline to offer feedback to the teams on their entries.
Five Page Report
The week prior to the competition, semifinalist teams submit a 5 Page Written Report (maximum of 5 pages, less preferred). This summary is not considered in the judging, but it does help the judges prepare for the presentations. The summary is also a valuable exercise for the teams, as it contains all of the major points that should be included in the presentation. The link below connects to a PDF file that contains the questions and instructions for completing the 5-page summary. Members of the Technology Entrepreneurship Society (www.texastes.org) or the Idea to Product® team can provide additional assistance for teams completing the summary.
A panel of judges will review the 5-page summaries prior to the competition in order to better acquaint themselves with the technologies.
